The “mini”-basket story

The Biddy Basket-Ball was created in the United States in 1950 by Mr. Jay Archer, graduated in Physical Education Science at the University of Stroudsburg.

At the beginning of 1951 the game spread out in all the States; Puerto Rico, Canada, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, Mexico, Brazil and Ecuador welcomed the game, following the example of the United States.

In Europe, the Biddy Basket-ball was quickly called Minibasket and was launched in 1964 in Spain, then reached Italy.

In fact, in 1965 the first Minibasket Centres  were established in Milan, Bologna and Trieste;

in 1966 other centres like those of Catania, Messina, Bergamo, Brescia, Ravenna, Padoa, Florence, Genoa, Bari, Busto Arsizio and Udine were added to the initial group.

Then,….. we arrive to our days.

The Minibasket scheduled in the programmes of the Youth Games in the season 1979-1980 as game-sport beside other ones like aquatic games, triathlon, mini-handball, mini-volley, mini-soccer and in the educational programmes of primary school (1985).

The introduction in the schools marked a significant milestone not only for the Minibasket, but also because it facilitated a basic access of the younger students to several sports.

In concise terms and in chronological order, this is the short history of Minibasket.
