Let us play: what do we need?
In order to play a correct match of basketball, several mandatory tools and standardized equipments have to be used.

Each team is composed by 10 players, 5 of them in the pitch against the 5 of opponent team. The remaining 5 replace alternately the mates during the time.

For organising a match, the hosting team must supply precise equipments to the referees and officials:

  1. Regular chronometer and chronometer for no-playing time. They are at disposal of the timekeeper. The first records the playing time, the second one the remaining intervals.
  2. A chronometric device for the application of the rule of 24 seconds. An operator survey its working, the device has to be visible for players and for the public.
  3. Official match report. It is compiled by the scorekeeper before and after the match.
  4. Scoreboard. It must contain all the mandatory indications and has to be visible for players and for the public.
  5. Five numbered – from 1 to 5 – markers. The scorekeeper use them for displaying the number of faults made by a player.

  7. A big arrow, namely an alternating possession arrow. It is managed by one of the officials seating at the tables and it is used for remark which team has the right to play at the beginning of a time or after a contested ball possession. In fact, unlikely the past, the referee put on air the ball in the middle of two opponent players only at the beginning of the first of the four times.

Two other, but fundamental, elements have to be added to the above mentioned ones: the pitch and the ball.

The playing field must be of the following measurements: 28 meters of length and 16 meters of width.
Reduced measurements are allowed but they must be no lesser than 24 x 13.
The playing field is limited by lines not marking the ends of the pitch. The width of the lines does not must exceed 5 centimeters.

The ball must be spherical, and its surface leather, gum or synthetic material.
Its circumference may vary between 75 and 78 centimeters. Its weight may vary between 600 and 650 grams.
The ball must be inflated with such a pressure that, downing the ball onto the playing field from about meters 1.80 – but measured at the lower side of the ball – the rebound varies between meters 1.20 and 1.40 – here the measurement is taken on the higher side of the ball.
